LP Director Huff Speaks at Conference, Sharia v. The Constitution: A Panel Discussion
The Center for Security Policy https://www.legal-project.org/1892/lp-director-huff-speaks-at-conference-sharia-v Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-5) offered opening remarks, and the Center for Security Policy's Frank Gaffney moderated the discussion. The event was held at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC on November 16, 2010. David Yerushalmi (General Counsel – CSP) set the stage by defining what is meant by Sharia and offering actual examples of its encroachment on the American legal system. Andrew Cochran (Editor – the 7th Amendment Advocate) described how Sharia courts would erode the ancient right of trial by jury in civil cases. Legal Project Director, Daniel Huff, focused on how Sharia's prohibition on insulting Islam threatens the free speech rights of private citizens outside the courtroom setting. In addition, Islamists are working assiduously at the UN to fashion international law that could trump First Amendment rights. They have also ramped up physical threats as a way to silence critics.
