A hijab-wearing mother, in death Alawadi quickly became much more prominent than she had ever been in life. Paired with Trayvon Martin, she was made into the symbol of allegedly rampant anti-Muslim bigotry in the U.S., and the impetus for "Hoodie and Hijab" marches that protested the supposed dire predicament of racial and religious minorities in America today.
