Specter cancels appearance at conservative event
by Glenn Thrush https://www.legal-project.org/345/specter-cancels-appearance-at-conservative-event Excerpt:
For Arlen Specter, being a Democrat means he no longer has to cater to conservative base. So he's pulled out of a Tuesday speaking gig at a conference titled "Libel Lawfare: Silencing Criticism of Radical Islam," which critics say is an "anti-Islamic" gathering organized by Daniel Pipes, a conservative commentator known for his writings criticizing radical Islam. The main sponsors are the Middle East Forum and the Federalist Society. Specter's office has asked the conference to remove his name as one of the speakers. The docket includes several notable names in the conservative national security/legal establishment, including Andrew McCarthy, Frank Gaffney and Alan Dershowitz. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) tipped us off to the cancellation. Geert Wilders Lauds Legal Project "Last June, I was acquitted of all charges by an Amsterdam court. The Middle East Forum's Legal Project ... was always there to help, advise and assist ... The importance of the MEF's Legal Project in reclaiming free expression and political discourse ... cannot be overestimated." — Geert Wilders, September 29, 2011 |
